Since 1871, one of NRA’s major objectives has been to provide basic training in the safe and proper use of firearms. Today, more than 50,000 NRA Certified Instructors throughout the United States continue this fine tradition of public service by conducting NRA Basic Firearm Training Courses. Courses are offered in the following disciplines:
|Home Firearm Safety||Metallic Cartridge Reloading|
|Personal Protection In The Home||Range Safety Officer|
|Personal Protection Outside The Home|
|Belgian Brownings||Services and Pricing|
|Smith & Wesson I&J Frame Revolvers|
|Smith & Wesson K&L Frame Revolvers|
PPOH, both Basic, Advanced and Instructor Training, taught by Betsy Hostrop (TC) is scheduled by appointment for small groups. The Basic Course is approximately 17 hours depending on the number of students and their expertise and endurance. The “Advanced” segment is a 5-hour introduction to additional shooting positions. At a preliminary session the 350 page student text will be distributed, the restrictions on participants’ equipment discussed and the NRA approved technique of presentation of a handgun from a strong-side hip holster demonstrated and practiced (dry fire). Students then have time to locate proper equipment, develop some of the requisite “muscle-memory” and review a comprehensive guide to the fundamentals of concealed carry. Instructor Candidates must be active NRA Certified Pistol and Personal Protection in the Home Instructors. In addition, they must successfully complete the ‘PPOH’ Student Course. Their Seminar is essentially two days of student teaching both in the classroom and at the range.
Pre-Registration and Payment is required in advance. First-Paid, First-Reserved! If for any reason you have to cancel, full registration refunds are made up to one week prior to the Seminar or Class Date! After that, the refund will be at 50%! Minimum class size is two candidates. Applicants should have their own eye and ear protection, loaners are available. Firearms are also available as loaners for a small cleaning fee. In most cases, ammunition must be purchased at the Range.
